How to work better

December 2016

How to Work Better is a readymade artwork by Peter Fischli (b. 1952) and David Weiss (1946-2012) that has been hand-painted on a building on Houston Street at the corner of Mott Street in Lower Manhattan. It is also the title of the artist’s concurrent retrospective at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum.

The artwork displays ten simple statements that serve as a guideline for productivity. Originally used in a factory to motivate workers decades ago, it has since then been a widely circulated manifesto for workplaces in this day and age. This shows that the basic principles in which an office conducts itself has not changed much. With daily challenges in the workplace, it is essential for us to have the correct attitude among everything else. And for that, we will always follow the most important statement, “10 Smile!”
